Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association Selected for Civic Equity Project

The Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association was selected to participate in the Civic Equity Project. The proposal deadline for the proposal was early April. It was announced today, that out of 22 applications, 12 groups will be included in the cohort.

The kick-off event for the Civic Equity Project will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 8. Each cohort selected for this project will be able to invite a few key members from their respective organization.

Being a part of this team means receiving intensive organizational development and advocacy training over the two year span of the program, from April 2017-April 2019. This project will be engaged to create a pivotal moment in the engagement of our organization to serve in civic dialogue and decision-making in Bend and Central Oregon.

The time commitment will vary for each organization but will require a minimum of 5 hours per month, and as many as 15-20 hours per month for those organizations wishing to participate at the most intensive level.

Here’s what SCNA can expect over the life of the project:

  • A project kick-off to be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 8
  • Monthly 2-3 hour meetings with other cohort leaders in an Opportunity Knocks peer-support group
  • A needs-assesment and one-on-one learning sessions to be completed over the summer
  • A one-day organizational retreat in Fall 2017 to create a strategic plan for your organization’s development over the time of this project
  • Bi-monthly coaching calls with our organizational development specialists
  • Nine 2-3 hour organizational development and advocacy trainings in a classroom learning environment
  • Engagement in Bend 2030’s housing and transportation projects as advocacy training grounds
  • A final strategic advocacy planning retreat to be held in spring 2019 leading to the development of a two-year advocacy plan for your group

As your chair, I am looking forward to working with key members of the SCNA Board and working with Bend 2030 and Opportunity Knocks to learn strategies that will really make a difference in our organizational development in shaping the future of our neighborhood.
