We had our first board meeting Friday, February 17th. At this meeting, we discussed where to position speed monitoring signs and how to roll out the process to the neighborhood for public input. The City of Bend recognizes that safety of our neighborhood streets is a top priority among residents.
 
There are 13 neighborhoods and only 8-speed monitoring signs. The Southern Crossing neighborhood will have possession of a speed monitoring sign during the months of March, April, May, June, July, and January 2018. Each sign will stay in one spot for two months before moving to the next location.
 
In the meantime, we are pursuing public input. Please provide your input for up to six locations to position these speed monitoring signs. There are several ways to contact us:

1. Through the Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association Website, which is where you are now if you are reading this
2. Through the Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association Facebook page
3. You can email Mark Teel, Public Safety Chair directly at [email protected]
4. You will have a chance to vote again at the May 4, 2017, General Membership Meeting where we will have an enlarged map of the Southern Crossing Neighborhood and you can cast votes in a ballot box. 

 
When voting, we encourage you to think beyond your immediate neighborhood. Please consider the entire neighborhood boundaries to include the highest and best use with the goal of helping neighborhoods monitor speed to keep drivers alert.
 
Next General Membership Meeting
 
At our first board meeting Friday, February 17th we also agreed to have quarterly General Membership Meetings. We have already booked the Riverbend Conference Room at the Bend Parks & Recreation District office in the Old Mill district. Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 4th, 2017. This meeting will be held from 5 to 8 pm. We are working on a great lineup that includes Nick Arnis and MOVE BEND. MOVE BEND is a program of Bend 2030. What is Bend 2030?  According to the Bend 2030 website: 

“Bend 2030 is leading a coalition of agencies to create a website, a logo and a messaging campaign to encourage public support and funding for multimodal projects. When community members bike, walk and take the bus, they get more exercise leading to a healthier public, help eliminate green house gases and cause a reduction in stress on our road infrastructure.”

At the General Membership Meeting Nick will talk about how the city creates transportation system plans, designs transportation projects and pays for them and MOVE BEND will talk about current projects in the Southern Crossing neighborhood.
