The city has reached what they call “30% design” of the Neighborhood Street Safety Program (NSSP) project on SW Chamberlain Street. The city is planning to pave a 300-foot gravel section of the street, including the addition of safety improvements for bicycles and pedestrians, add an improved bicycle/pedestrian crossing of SW Reed Market Road, and remove an existing barrier to allow through traffic on the street. City planners hope to have a 100% design by December. This would allow getting a contractor on board in March 2025 with construction starting in May.

Speed humps are not shown on this 30% design, but the city plans to have 1 or 2 in the final design. City road standards will not allow user activated crosswalk warning lights in this location. However, there will be signage to warn drivers approaching the crosswalks, possibly including steady flashing lights like those located at the Bond Street crosswalk near the Box Factory.

The design includes a wide marked crosswalk over Reed Market on each side of Chamberlain. There is also a narrowed pavement width on Chamberlain, and a narrowed entry from Reed Market, which will encourage lower speeds. Bicycle sharrow markings will also be on the pavement. A 6-foot wide ssidewalk with a rolled curb is located along the west side of Chamberlain.
