Cheers to everyone who came out to the Southern Crossing Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday, July 27 and made the day so much fun! Over 100 neighbors got a chance to socialize over tacos, chalk drawing, games and hula dancing! Big thanks go out to our sponsors, Mid Oregon Credit Union, Jackstraw and The Old Mill District, who helped make the food, prize drawings and entertainment so wonderful. Kudos also to the Events Committee for their help in organizing, setting up and staffing! Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we got from guests, we’re already planning our next Block Party for Summer 2025. SCNA First Tuesdays Meetup at Crux

The June edition of our First Tuesday meetup event will be on June 4 from 5-7 pm, once again at our neighborhood’s craft beer playground: Crux Fermentation Project! Come meet and socialize with your Southern Crossing neighbors on the lawn at Crux. With unbeatable views of the Cascade Mountains, Crux is the ideal family and dog-friendly spot to enjoy an evening of community and fun. We’ll get the party started with appetizers on us. Look for us at the picnic table with the SCNA sign.

Crux is located at 50 SW Division Street. Walking or biking are great ways to arrive. If you are driving, access through SW Industrial Way has recently been opened up in preparation for a coming construction closure on Aune Street (the previous driving access).

Bend Public Safety Open House

On Monday, June 10 from 5:30 to 7 pm at Bend Municipal Court (555 NE 15th Street) the City of Bend will hold a public safety open house. You are invited to come and learn about how traffic calming and enforcement are addressed by public safety and transportation planning. Hear from Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz and Right-of-Way Director Janet Hruby on these topics. There will also be interactive displays, information and staff from Bend Police and Transportation & Mobility departments to answer questions.

Following the open house, from 7 to 8:30 pm will be a roundtable discussion with City Councilors, City staff, and neighborhood district board members around Public Safety Council Goals such as technology investments like automated traffic response, and related neighborhood concerns.

Annual Fire Free Yard Debris Disposal Event 2024

Deschutes County is once again conducting a Fire Free event this spring. The usual fee at Knott Landfill will be waived so that you may dispose of yard waste for free. This includes grass clippings, brush, plant prunings, pine needles, pine cones, weeds, trimmings, and branches, stumps or trees no larger than 12” diameter. This event runs from May 3 to May 12, 7am to 4:30pm. You can find out more about this event as well as other fire prevention information on the Fire Free website.
